Dr. Yogesh Thakker is a Consultant Psychiatrist. Dr. Thakker prescribes medications for a variety of mental health conditions. He provides a comprehensive assessment of your presenting concern, discusses the diagnoses and treatment options including medications with you.




About Dr. Yogesh Thakker


Dr. Thakker is a medical doctor and specializes in General Adult Psychiatry and Psychiatry of Developmental Disabilities. He trained in General Psychiatry in India and there he received his MD Psychiatry degree. He then studied Psychiatry in London (UK) for seven years. During this time, Dr. Thakker was awarded Membership in Psychiatry (MRCPsych) and completed specialized training (CCT) in Psychiatry of Developmental Disability. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He is Practicing in Edmonton as a consultant psychiatrist since 2014. Dr. Thakker currently is the Lead Psychiatrist for COAST (Community Outreach Assessment and Support Team) in Edmonton supporting adults with developmental disabilities and mental health problems. In addition to working at Manor Clinic, he also works at different Alberta Health Services community sites in Edmonton, Stony Plain and Spruce Grove and as an in-patient psychiatrist at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. He also works as a consultant psychiatrist in other specialized programs like Adult Convulsive Disorder Clinic and is the Medical Lead for the Adult FASD Diagnostic Clinic at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton. Dr. Thakker has special interest is in supporting patients with Developmental Disabilities including Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr Thakker also has keen interest in teaching, training, and research. He has lectured at University of Hertfordshire, UK. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta. He has been involved in teaching and training of medical students and psychiatry residents. He has published many papers in peer reviewed journals. He has done scientific presentations in several national and international conferences. He has chaired Innovations in Practice conference - Western Canadian Conference on Developmental Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder including Mental Health in Children and Adults in 2018 and 2019. This was one of the largest conference in Canada in the field of Mental Health and Developmental Disability. Languages Spoken: English, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu. ​
