New consultations may take up to 1½ hours. Follow-up appointments are 10-60 minutes. Ensure that you have sufficient time for your appointment

Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details especially your telephone number.

Please bring a list of all your medications or the bottles or a pharmacy print out, including any supplements you maybe taking.

You are welcome to have family/friends joining you for the appointment. The doctor may want to see you and/or your companion alone with your consent.

Please ensure you have enough medications to last until your next appointment. If you are unsure, please ask before leaving the office.

If you are suicidal or do not feel safe or have a plan/thoughts to hurt others, please proceed to your nearest Emergency Department. Alternatively you can contact Addiction and Mental Health (AMH)  Access 24/7 that is located across the street from the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s Emergency Department in Anderson Hall. If you do not attend your appointment without prior notification or if you repeatedly cancel your appointment with less than 24-hour notice, you may be discharged back to your family physician.

You will require a new referral if you have been discharged back to your family physician. You may have to wait for up to 3 months to be seen again.

Prescriptions will not be refilled if you do not attend your appointment. There will be a charge for telephone advice and prescription refills if not part of your scheduled appointments.

After your appointment

Your information will be confidential and will only be shared with the referrer. It will only be shared with third parties (e.g. your therapist) or family/friends with your consent.

The referring physician/agency will be notified of the outcome of the appointment within two weeks of the appointment. The report may include all the details discussed at the appointment. Please discuss with your psychiatrist if you wish any information to be withheld.

We welcome your feedback verbally or in writing. If you are not happy with the care you have received, your family doctor is able to refer you to another specialist for a second opinion or transfer of care.

We have a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to aggression and violence. Patients who are abusive may be asked to leave and could be removed from our patient list.
